The flexibility and scratch resistance of PE pipe

At present, PE pipes have strict requirements on liquid conveying products, among which scratches that often appear due to problems in the field of use are very harmful to the pipes in use. With its flexibility and excellent scratch resistance in use now, PE pipes will be more widely used. Next, I will introduce its flexibility and scratch resistance.

The flexibility of PE pipes has great technical and economic value. The flexibility of polyethylene is an important property that increases the value of this material in plumbing. Good flexibility enables PE pipe to be coiled and supplied in longer lengths, thus avoiding a large number of joints and fittings. For example, Nantong Water Supply Company, a national urban water improvement demonstration unit, made full use of the coiled characteristics of PE small-diameter pipes when selecting materials for the one-meter renovation of one household. For users, there is no pipe joint in the middle from the water meter to the end of a pipe, which not only saves costs, but also improves work efficiency. This feature of PE pipes has been recognized by water companies in various cities with water meter out-of-home projects, and has become a product for water improvement operations. At the same time, flexibility, light weight and excellent scratch resistance make it possible to adopt various installation methods that can reduce the impact on the environment and social life and are cost-effective, such as excavation-free construction techniques. Excavation-free construction technology refers to the construction technology of laying, replacing or repairing various underground pipelines without digging trenches (troughs) on the surface by using various rock-soil drilling technologies. A variety of no-excavation construction techniques are very suitable for the use of PE pipes, such as horizontal directional drilling and directional drilling to lay new pipes, pipe expansion to replace old pipes in situ, repair old pipe linings and update lining methods, and various improved lining methods (folding deformation method, hot drawing method and cold rolling method).

The unique flexibility of PE pipe also makes it resistant to subsurface movement and end loads. On the surface, plastic buried pipes are inferior to cement pipes and metal pipes in terms of strength and rigidity, but in practical applications, plastic buried pipes are “flexible pipes”, and under the correct design and laying, they can bear the load together with the surrounding soil . Therefore, plastic buried pipes can meet the requirements of mechanical properties in buried use, but will not achieve the same strength and rigidity as “rigid pipes”. At the same time, the pressure of polyethylene is relaxed, and the relaxation performance can consume stress through deformation. It is a high-toughness material with strong adaptability to uneven foundation settlement. These characteristics make it a good anti-seismic, anti-foundation settlement and anti-temperature expansion pipe.
